TED CRUZ ENDORSES TAYLOR FOR CONGRESS IN THE THIRD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
PLANO, TX – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today announced his endorsement of State Senator Van Taylor, who is running for Congress in the Third Congressional District of Texas.
“Van is a strong conservative leader, and I am proud to endorse him to be the next Congressman from the Third District of Texas,” said Cruz. “I look forward to having Van in the House, and to working closely with him to fight for jobs and opportunity for Texas. I urge the people of the Third District to join me and support Van Taylor.”
Thanking Senator Cruz for his endorsement Taylor stated, “Senator Cruz has been a stalwart conservative voice in the Senate, as he fights for limited government, liberty, economic opportunity, and our Constitution. You never have to wonder where Senator Cruz stands as the political winds shift – he is a man of principle and courage. It is an honor to receive his endorsement in our grassroots campaign to bring the solutions pioneered here in Texas to Washington D.C.”
Widely recognized as a conservative leader, Taylor seeks to replace Congressman Sam Johnson, who in January announced plans to retire after the conclusion of the current Congress.
Since announcing his candidacy, Taylor has continued to build momentum with key endorsements from influential grassroots and local leaders. In addition to today’s announcement from U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, those backing Taylor include 95% of Republican Precinct Chairs, Governor Greg Abbott, former Governor Rick Perry, nine current and former Collin County legislators, the leaders of Collin County tea parties, a coalition of law enforcement leaders, Collin County Conservative Republicans, Grassroots McKinney, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, Texas Right to Life, the nationally recognized conservative organization Club for Growth, and much more.
Throughout his tenure in the Texas Legislature, Van consistently fought to limit the size and reach of government, secure our border, rein in spending, lower taxes, protect the Rainy Day Fund, and stop the expansion of Obamacare in Texas.
In addition to fighting for conservative solutions, Taylor has also made his mark spearheading legislation to protect victims of domestic violence and to safeguard our children from online sexual predators. He has worked to make it easier for our military to vote while serving overseas, verify the citizenship of every voter in the state, close a loophole preventing healthcare fraud and abuse saving local taxpayers millions, curb the prescription opioid epidemic, stop the proliferation of toll roads, and author sweeping ethics reform including revoking benefits from corrupt politicians. Additionally, Taylor’s Truth in Taxation rule, which forces politicians to state clearly in the first line of any bill if there is an attempt to raise taxes or fees, has been cited by Americans for Tax Reform as a successful blueprint for other states to implement.
Van and his wife, Anne, married after his return from Iraq and are the proud parents of three young girls. Van and his family reside in Plano near the land his great-grandfather farmed during the Great Depression.
