AUSTIN, TX - State Senator Van Taylor released the following statement on the Senate passage of S.B. 4, authored by Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock), which bans sanctuary cities in Texas. Senator Taylor coauthored this legislation and Governor Greg Abbott declared it an emergency item.
"For decades Washington has kicked the can, ignoring the people's call to fix our broken immigration system. Texans demand a secure border and passage of meaningful measures to stop illegal immigration. In the Texas Senate we cannot change federal immigration law, but we can ensure that elected officials in Texas follow the laws that are already on the books. Releasing criminal illegal immigrants back into our communities in clear violation of federal law is unacceptable and dangerous. By passing Senate Bill 4 today we took an important step towards stopping rouge elected officials from ignoring the rule of law and putting our families at risk in the pursuit of their own misguided agenda."

A seventh generation Texan, local small businessman, and decorated Marine Officer, Van Taylor serves the majority of Collin County and a portion of Dallas County in the Texas Senate where he is widely recognized as a conservative leader. Taylor serves as Vice-Chairman of the Sunset Advisory Commission and is also member of the Natural Resources and Economic Development, Education, Health and Human Services, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Nominations Committees. Van and his wife, Anne, married after his return from Iraq and are the proud parents of three young girls. Van and his family reside in Plano near the land his great-grandfather farmed during the Great Depression.
