Texans for Fiscal Responsibility announced today that Representative Van Taylor (R-Plano) has earned the top award presented to legislators based on their rating on the most recent Fiscal Responsibility Index. Representative Taylor received a 'A' rating, earning him the title of “Taxpayer Champion”.

"I am honored to be recognized by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility as a Taxpayer Champion," said Representative Taylor. "I remain committed to lower taxes and less government. We cannot balance our budget on the backs of Texas taxpayers. Texas legislators have a duty to those who elected them to  make government lean and efficient, preserving freedom and prosperity in our great state."

The 2011 Fiscal Responsibility Index is a system that rates lawmakers based on their votes during the 82nd Legislative Session. In the House, more than 40 votes were used to rate lawmakers. The votes selected for the index are ones that affect the size and cost of government, providing voters with a measure to evaluate lawmakers on their commitment to protecting Texas’ taxpayers.

"Throughout the legislative session, Van Taylor was a steadfast champion working on behalf of Texas' taxpayers," said Michael Quinn Sullivan, President of Empower Texans / Texans for Fiscal Responsibility. "He is widely seen as a thoughtful, honest leader representing Collin County from a core set of practical principles that put people first."

Representative Van Taylor is a decorated Marine Corps Officer and a successful businessman. He was sworn in on Wednesday, January 10, 2011, to represent the 66th District in the 82nd Texas Legislature. Rep. Taylor ranked #117 in seniority of the 150 Member Chamber. He was elected to represent Texas' 66th House District in a special election and was sworn in on April 20, 2010. He was appointed to serve on the Human Services and the Defense and Veterans Affairs Committees. As a committed fiscal conservative, Rep. Taylor is committed to reducing the cost and size of state government while increasing economic opportunity and quality of life for all Texans.
