Jackson Campaign Maintains: "I don't think this qualifies as going negative."
(Plano) - In a last-minute attempt to resurrect her failing campaign, Mabrie Jackson has subjected Plano residents to negative attacks, false charges and offensive mailers. In fact, one Texas publication today characterized the latest developments from Jackson as the "Plano Mud Season". In spite of launching one of the most negative mail pieces in Collin County history, the Jackson campaign unbelievably maintains "I don't think this qualifies as going negative."
Mabrie Jackson’s politically moderate message fails to attract voters who want a strong conservative as their state representative, so in a desperate attempt to save her campaign she is now littering mailboxes with offensive mailings.
In her mailings, Jackson is intentionally misleading voters by claiming that Van Taylor has hidden his high-profile run for congress against liberal Democrat Chet Edwards, a key Nancy Pelosi lieutenant. The truth is, Van Taylor documented the campaign in his very first press release when announcing for office. Taylor has repeatedly referred to the race in public forums, handed out information on the race to voters, and posted it on his website, which can be viewed at www.vantaylor.com. Taylor's run is another example of his life-long commitment to the conservative cause, and he is proud of his attempt to defeat a liberal Democrat in 2006.
In addition, Mabrie Jackson attacked Wayne Richard, another Republican candidate in the race, for producing “hidden camera voyeurism videos” on the Internet.
Plano Republicans have condemned the false, negative attacks on Taylor.
“One of the reasons I so strongly support Van Taylor is because of the positive, issue-oriented campaign he has run,” said 35-year resident and Plano voter Sharon Borgne. “Mabrie Jackson’s smear campaign against Van Taylor is untrue and beyond the pale. She should apologize to the people of Plano for this offensive mailing and the conduct of her campaign," said Borgne.
Plano resident Brooks Martin said, "Frankly, I expected better of Mabrie Jackson, and I'm very disappointed in her false, personal attacks. I urge her to move her campaign to a higher level and focus on the issues."
The Jackson attacks come as Van Taylor continues to build campaign momentum, winning the overwhelming majority of conservative endorsements in this campaign. This week, Taylor was endorsed by the Texas Alliance for Life and the Conservative Hispanic Society PAC. Taylor has previously been endorsed by the Texans for Fiscal Responsibility PAC, Young Conservatives of Texas, and Congressman Jeb Hensarling. Additionally, he is "A" rated by the NRA and certified as "pro-life" by Texas Right to Life.
Jackson was also called out today for hypocrisy in her own campaign advertising. While she claims she is a Republican, she omits the fact that she previously worked for a Democrat State Representative.
